Johnston & Murphy Shoe Size chart

Founded in 1850, in Newark, New Jersey, Johnston and Murphy shoes has a history that stretches back to the William J. Dudley Shoe Company. This shoe company was run by the man who gave it its name, an immigrant from Europe who had been schooled in the traditions of English shoemaking.

The company had a focus on durable work shoes for men, women, and children. Growth over the next 25 years led the company to move repeatedly to larger locations until 1880 when businessman James Johnston partnered with William J. Dudley. Shortly after, another Newark businessman joined the company, William A. Murphy. This new team of businessmen expanded the product lines and also sought out new distribution channels.

Johnston and Murphy shoes grew from durable work shoes to high end footwear, and even included a popular golf shoe. Today’s lineup includes boots, oxfords, boat shoes, dress shoes and more.
